Hana 花(はな) means flower. Flowers are beautiful. Owing to its beauty, there’re a lot of words and expressions having hana 花(はな).
● 花(はな)が咲いた(さいた)。 (Hana-ga saita.)
The flowers have come out.
● 花(はな)が散って(ちって)しまった。 (Hana-ga chitte shimatta.)
The flowers have fallen.
● 彼女(かのじょ)は花(はな)も恥じらう(はじらう)ほどの美女(びじょ)だった。 (Kanojo-wa hana-mo hajirau-hodo-no bijo-datta.)
She was such a beauty that even flowers get shy.
● 花(はな)も実(み)もある。 (Hana-mo mi-mo aru.)
That has fruits as well as flowers.
N.B. It’s referred to something that is true to its name or is both useful and beautiful. This is a proverb since Muromachi Period 室町時代 (1336-1573).
Hana-gumori 花曇り(はなぐもり) is a cloudy sky in the cherry blossom season in spring because, in Japan, there are many cloudy days then.
● 桜(さくら)が咲き(さき)始めた(はじめた)が、今日(きょう)は花曇り(はなぐもり)だ。 (Sakura-ga saki-hajime-ta-ga, kyoo-wa, hana-gumori-da.)
Cherry blossoms has begun to open, but it’s slightly cloudy today.
Note that sakura 桜(さくら) has been loved by most of Japanese people since Heian Period 平安(へいあん)時代(じだい)(794-1192), and just hana 花(はな) is often referred to sakura 桜(さくら).
Hana-mi 花見 (はなみ) is to enjoy viewing cherry blossoms, and hana-mi-zake 花見(はなみ)酒(ざけ) is the drinking over enjoying sakura 桜(さくら).
● 花見(はなみ)酒(ざけ)は最高(さいこう)だね。 (Hana-mi-zake-wa saikoo-da-ne.)
Drinking under cherry blossoms are perfect.
Hana 花(はな) is used figuratively.
● 雪(ゆき)の花(はな)が舞って(まって)いる。 (Hana-no yuki-ga matte-iru.)
It snows like falling flowers.
● 昔(むかし)は花(はな)を咲かせた(さかせた)ものだ。 (Mukashi-wa hana-o saka-se-ta mono-da.)

Hana-michi 花道(はなみち) is the scene when you’re in the spotlight or gloriously stepping down to retirement.

The job crowned the last days of his career.
Hana 花(はな) is used for something beautiful, flourish, in bloom, or prosperous.

That person has beautiful ladies in the both sides.
That person is both famous and prosperous.

Hana-zakari 花盛り(はなざかり) is when you’re in bloom or full swing.
● あのモデルは今(いま)が花盛り(はなざかり)だ。 (Ano moderu-wa ima-ga hana-zakari-da.)
That model is now in the bloom.
Hana 花(はな) sometimes means honor or fame.
● 彼ら(かれら)は若者(わかもの)に花(はな)を持たせた(もたせた)。(Kare-ra-wa wakamono-ni hana-o mota-se-ta.)
They gave the young man credit.
Hana-yome 花嫁(はなよめ) is referred to a bride; hana-muko 花婿(はなむこ) a bridegroom.
Hana-bi 花火(はなび) is fireworks, literary means ‘flower-like fire.’
Hana-bana-shi-i 花花しい(はなばなしい) means gorgeous, attractive, and splendid.
● 彼女(かのじょ)の活躍(かつやく)は花花しい(はなばなしい)。 (Kanojo-no katsuyaku-wa hana-bana-shi-i.)

Hanayaka 花やか(はなやか) means something or someone is gorgeous, brilliant, beautiful, and attractive.
● 花やか(はなやか)に着飾った(きかざった)人(ひと)たちがあそこを歩いて(あるいて)いるよ。 (Hanayaka-ni ki-kazatta hito-tachi-ga asoko-o arui-te-iru-yo.)
There go people who have gorgeous clothes on over there.
● 彼(かれ)は花やか(はなやか)な存在(そんざい)だ。 (Kare-wa hanayaka-na sonzai-da.)
He’s a brilliant existence.
Hana-ya-gu 花やぐ(はなやぐ) means that the situation becomes gorgeous, brilliant, beautiful, and attractive, or your feeling gets high and happy.
● パーティーは花やいだ(はなやいだ)雰囲気(ふんいき)だった。 (Paati-wa hana-ya-i-da hun-i-ki-datta.)
The party had a showy and cheerful atmosphere.
● 気分(きぶん)が花やいだ(はなやいだ)。 (Kibun-ga hana-ya-i-da.)
I felt bright and cheerful.
